The actual meaning behind every folklore song, part 2

Hey, welcome to the second part of the actual meaning behind every folklore song. Let’s start :)

This is me trying

this is me trying sees a character the accepting fault for relationship issues and making an effort to repair them. Fear, alcohol, and a sense of failure and isolation complicate the healing process, but the character in this song takes the first step by having the humility to admit things are difficult and uncertain.

Illicit affairs

In the song, Taylor Swift talks about having a secretive relationship–possibly even a friends-with-benefits type of relationship with a person. She hates it, as the feelings of dying runs inside her after the act is committed. But something keeps her going for more and more.

Invisible string

The song invisible string is a wildly romantic song, that appears to describe Taylor‘s life before she met her partner, Joe Alwyn, and how an "invisible string" connected them over the years.

Mad woman

In this song Taylor is using her newfound political voice, Taylor touches on one of the major injustices women face. Women are constantly ridiculed by men, society.. But when you dare to fight back at your aggressors, you're labelled "emotional" and "crazy." Women are expected to just lay down and take whatever is thrown at them with a smile.

In the melancholy tune, Taylor likens this to her experience being bellied by Scooter.

Epiphany

Epiphany describes someone hoping to find peace in their dreams despite living in a world of chaos and violence, specifically in the midst of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Other people said it could also be about the experience of Taylor‘s grandfather in war.

Betty

This song is the last part of the love triangle, it describes the perspective and emotions of James and how he thinks about his summer affair with the girl from the song august. We also get to know that James want to get betty back.

Peace

This song is a calm tune, describing Swift’s maturation and changing view of romance. She explains her shortcomings in a relationship and hopes that her partner will stay with her in spite of them.

Hoax

Last but not leaset, hoax. Hoax tells the story about how Taylor would feel if she would break up with her soulmate Joe Alwyn one day. The lyrics of this song are deep like the ocean and if you heard tthis song once, you won’t forget them quick

I hope you liked this post. Thank you for readin! Please tell me in the comm your favourite song from folklore? Mine is definitely illicit affairs.

Love, Celina <3
